Optical Underground

Optical Underground is a fourth generation San Francisco fashion eyewear company located in the heart of Hayes Valley.  We have been a destination for exceptional eyewear in the SF Bay Area. We sell past-season luxury and independent eyewear from some of the most creative designers in the business - discreetly priced, authentically sourced, and served without the usual optical-store stiffness. We also fill lens prescriptions.

Optical experience is helpful, but not required. We can teach frame measurements, lenses, prescriptions, and product knowledge. What we need is harder to teach: curiosity, taste, confidence, reliability and the ability to make customers feel seen without making them feel sold to.

You might be a fit if you've worked in fashion, design, jewelry, beauty, hospitality, luxury retail, vintage or any environment where service and style matter.

This is not a passive counter job.

You'll greet customers, style frames, learn brands, support sales goals, help maintain the floor, participate in special events and become part of a small but growing team with high standards and very little "mall" energy.

Compensation: $23 +  per hour depending upon experience, plus storewide bonus opportunities.

Full and part-time.

Weekend availability required.

We have been here since 1911. Still slightly rebellious.
